The Coronavirus has impacted the pageant industry!

On March 13, 2020, Society of Pageant Women LLC started seeing messages, like this one, on Eventbrite for pageant systems.

” [PAGEANT SYSTEMS NAME] is continually monitoring the Coronavirus (Covid-19) situation and we have decided to postpone the 2020 [PAGEANT SYSTEMS NAME] Pageant. Our #1 concern is the safety and health of our community and attendees. We don’t want to contribute to the spread of this virus and limiting social gatherings is one way to slow this down. We understand this is upsetting and frustrating but we want to do our part to keep our community and area healthy and as safe as possible. We are working on a new date for the Pageant and we hope to publish that soon. We also want to thank all of you for your support and the contestants for understanding why we made this difficult decision. Attendees will get an email as well. If you have any questions, please email us at [PAGEANT SYSTEMS CONTACT EMAIL]. Thank you and stay healthy!”

Through this time period, as a director and titleholder, please take this outbreak seriously, if you have not already. Staying healthy is extremely important and we want you to have a successful pageant after this outbreak dies down.

What should directors do during this outbreak?

1. Postpone your pageant
      – The outbreak is very contagious and has been mutating very quickly. U.S. states are starting to implement ‘State of Emergency’ statements banning gatherings of 100 – 500 people in one location. If your state does not have any outbreaks, please continue to watch the news media closely.

2. Send an email with updates and keep your contestants informed
      – Contestants do not like being in the dark. The sooner you can communicate a solid plan, the better. Keeping your contestants informed will reduce the likelihood of dropouts and upset contestants.

3. Stay informed on State of Emergency updates
     – Covid-19 is a relatively new case and information is still being collected to determine how serious it will impact individuals and our economy. We advise that you watch multiple news media forums to get the most accurate information across multiple sources. Some news media outlets get certain updates faster than others.

4. Join Society of Pageant Women To Stay Informed On Issues and Happenings to Be In the know for the future.
     – As the first professional society within the pageant industry, we want to make sure all entities are informed on what may impact happenings in pageantry. Registered members are creating forums to informs all parties on what is going on and encourage that we start working together through Society of Pageant Women to grow the industry.

We want all pageants to be ethical and proceed with the necessary precautions in with customer service, leadership, events and health and more for the betterment of the industry and to improve experiences so that pageantry can be seen in a more positive light.
